Leading up to the 80th Oscar Ceremony this is what we've watched.....
1981 Raiders of The Lost Ark: Nominated in 8 categories and won 4 awards for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.
2006 Little Miss Sunshine: Won 2 awards, best supporting actor and original screenplay. Had 2 other nominations for Best Picture and
Best Supporting Actress for Abigail Breslin.
2006 El Labertino Del Fauno: 3 Oscars for Achievements in Cinematography, Art Direction and Make-up.
1990 Dick Tracy: Couple of Awards including one for Original Song to living Legend Stephen Sondheim. This stylised comic book film is one of the better adaptations in the past 30 years of a comic book/cartoon.
1985 The Color Purple: Nominated for 11 oscars, and it won NONE! Still a worthy contender and addition to our Oscars weekend.
1956 The King And I: 9 nominations including Best Picture, it won 5 )NOT including Best Picture) and is one of my favourite musicals.
2003 The Triplets Of Belleville: Wonder why! Two nominations but no wins. Byr AWESOME, AWESOME film! The Best so far in thsi marathon!
1972 Cabaret: Still on the musicals, Cabbers was nominated 10 times and won 8 of those, including gongs for Director, Best Actor and Actress.
2004 Ray: Nominated for 6, this Biopic gave us a huge surpride in Jamie Foxx can act!!! Who knew!
2001 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: A martial Arts flm nominated for oscars!? Yeah right, and Rocky won best picture.......oh....... 4 Awards given here!
2002 Adaptation.: Love, love, love this movie, and it won 2 oscars to boot! But this movie is really wierd and not for the lame minded.
1993 Schindler's List: Nominated for many and winning lots, this Best Picture winner is a tough watch, a tear jerker and one of Spielbergs best Drama films.
More movies to come over the day, lazing in bed with movies on oscar day.... WOOT!
1986 Platoon: Another best picture winner.
1995 Fargo: Frances McDormand is a stunner, gotta love this dark comedy/thriller.
- A break for the Oscars Ceremony which ends up finishing after midnight!
2006 Happy Feet: One half of us likes this movie, the other would prefer to rip out his finger nails. This beat Pixars 'Cars' to the best animated feature Oscar??? n behalf of my country I apologize to the world for Happy Feet, though Elisha doesn't. I need to watch a good movie!!!
2000 O Brother Where Art Thou After the Coens did well at the Oscars thought I'd watch another of thiers.. 2 Nominations went to this one.
Next up....
1994 Pulp Fiction: Tarantinos mad cap compedy won best screenplay and through him into the indie spotlight. It also revived John Travoltas career.
1968 2001 A Space Odyssey: it won a visual effects oscar.
2005 Munich: Nominated for 5 awards but didn't win any, unfortunetly, this is the best Spielberg movie yet.
1989 Who Framed Roger Rabbit: love this movie, and finally an oscar nominated comedy that is light and sans 'F-Bomb'! This won 4 oscars including Best Editing.
1996 Jerry Maguire: Cuba Gooding Jnr. won an oscar for this Cameron Crowe film -which isn't the best of his work I must admit, though it is really satisfying in the first 5 minutes when a young kid tells Tom Cruise to fuck off... almost as old as Katie he was. Cuba Gooding Jnr. is the prime example of what not to do in hollywood - Take Eddie Murphys films scraps.
1968 Planet Of The Apes: '68 represented again by another sci-fi with monkeys! Perhaps I should've waited a few more hours till I watched this...
continuing.....
2004 Sideways... hmpf, love this movie and there's anactor from 'Lost' in it however it's confusing that if the book was released in July 2004 how could the film be shot in september of 2003? Unless they had an earlier draft to work off in which case they were really lucky it ended up being good!
1958 South Pacific: This one sits nicely because William has a soft spot for the stage version. He's seen it plenty of times!
1995 Toy Story: Living Leg End Joss Whedon co-wrote this awesome flick which won an honourary oscar for being the first full-lengthy computer animated movie. Can't wait for the 3D version!
2002 SpiderMan 2: The effects in this film are wickedly cool and deserve the gong it won! It's such a shame, like such a HUGE shame that the 3rd one was a load of poo.
1994 Ed Wood: Love this Tim Burton film and one that doesn't sit terribly well with the mass audiences but certainly with Burton fans... and Wood fans for that matter!
2003 Finding Nemo: who doesn't love this fishy flick? Alot of people thought this should have won more!
1984 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: another solid romp through caves and all sorts.
1995 Pocahantas: Not the best of the disney cartoons, won an oscar or two in the music categories.
2001 Moulin Rouge!: One of the best musical films in years (albeit jukebox) and certainly to be made in Australia! Yaaaay! But listened to this with the TV turned off to interpret through imagination. Was fun!
1994 The Lion King: Since Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture technically this african feast for the eyes should've too if only for the academy! If teh stage show version was any more shitty then I'd eat my hat.
1964 Mary Poppins: Winning 4 oscars and sticking with the disney theme going at the moment, Julie Andrews was up against Audrey Hepburn who played Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, funny thing is though Ms Andrews wasn't a big enough name at the time to be given the lead in My Fair Lady so Hepburn got it and Andrews for Poppins, didn't do her own singing and the rest is history, one film won best picture the other won best actress....
2000 Almost Famous: Love this movie for so many reasons... it's script,it's characters, plot, music, humour... plus this is the first DVD William got.
a week and counting.....
1978 Alien: This slow burning original started off a franchise which has ended up with AVP. Some great actors in it though! And it is kind of creepy I guess.
1996 Evita: One half of us likes this film, the other would prefer to rip out her finger nails. Nominated for 5 but won 1, Best Song.
1965 The Sound Of Music: Puking more like it. Don't need to dwell on this Best Picture winner.
2004 Vera Drake: Was nominated for 3 awards including best actress to the brilliant Imelda Staunton, whilst it didn't win any it's on SBS tonight so why not watch it! Depressing!
1964 My Fair Lady
1993 Jurassic Park
